Dennis W. Pullin, president and CEO of Virtua Health, has released a new book on leadership that became an Amazon best-seller within 24 hours of publication. All proceeds from sales will benefit Virtua’s food access programs.
Titled “Suited for Leadership: How to Show Up with Purpose to Have Lasting Impact,” the book shares lessons Pullin has learned during his career as a nationally recognized health care executive. It was published by Brave Healer Publishing and is available in hardcover, paperback and digital formats.
In the first day after its April 8 release, the book topped Amazon’s Hot New Releases lists in the Leadership Training and Workplace Culture categories.
“This isn’t a how-to manual,” Pullin said. “It’s a reflection on what it means to lead with authenticity, empathy and purpose.”
The 24-chapter book draws on stories from Pullin’s life and career, emphasizing themes such as emotional intelligence, mentorship, authenticity and building trust. He also shares insights from his personal journey — from growing up in Texas to leading one of New Jersey’s largest health systems.
The foreword is written by Adam Schechter, chairman and CEO of Labcorp. Early praise for the book came from leaders at MedStar Health and Medtronic, among others, who described it as inspiring, practical and deeply personal.
Proceeds from the book will support Virtua Health’s food access programs, including the Eat Well Mobile Grocery Store and Eat Well Mobile Farmers Market.
Pullin has led Virtua Health since 2017. He was named one of the Top 10 Health Care Leaders in the U.S. by Healthcare Digital in 2024. Modern Healthcare has also recognized him as one of the Top 25 Innovators, the 100 Most Influential People in Health Care and a Top 25 Diversity Leader on multiple occasions.
Before joining Virtua, Pullin held executive roles in hospitals and health systems across the country, including in Houston, Washington, D.C., and Baltimore.
