Gabel names Co-CEOs, COO in executive transition

Gabel Associates has named Isaac Gabel-Frank and Mike Borgatti as co-CEOs and Holly Reed as chief operating officer, marking a leadership transition at the Highland Park-based energy and utility consulting firm.

The appointments follow the decision by founder and longtime president Steven Gabel to step back after more than 30 years leading the firm. Gabel, who launched the company in 1993, will remain involved in an advisory role supporting clients and special projects.

Gabel-Frank and Borgatti, both veteran executives at the firm, will continue to lead their respective divisions—regulatory and analytics, and wholesale power and market services—while assuming CEO responsibilities. Reed, who previously served as senior vice president, will oversee day-to-day operations as COO and help implement the firm’s strategic vision.

“I am stepping back with immense gratitude, knowing that the firm is in the best possible hands,” Gabel said in a statement. “Isaac, Mike, and Holly are uniquely positioned to lead Gabel Associates into an exciting new chapter.”

Gabel has played a significant role in shaping energy policy across retail and wholesale markets and has been involved in the development of hundreds of renewable and traditional energy projects throughout his career. He is also credited with mentoring a generation of energy professionals and establishing the firm’s reputation as a leading consultancy in the energy sector.

Gabel-Frank and Borgatti both expressed appreciation for Gabel’s leadership and emphasized their commitment to continuing the firm’s client-centered, innovation-driven mission. Reed called it an “incredible honor” to take on the COO role and praised the firm’s collaborative culture.

Founded in 1993, Gabel Associates provides consulting services across the energy, utility, and environmental sectors, serving clients nationwide from its headquarters in Highland Park.
