Price Rite Marketplace’s annual “Check-Out Hunger” campaign raised more than $23,000 in support of food banks in the New England and mid-Atlantic regions this year through the efforts of its associates and customers.
From November 2024 through January 2025, Price Rite Marketplace stores collected donations at checkout to help food banks address hunger in their communities. The supermarket brand has raised more than $2 million for the initiative since 2002. Price Rite Marketplace is one of the supermarket banners of Wakefern Food Corp., a retailer owned cooperative that is the largest in the United States.
The latest effort was in support of 21 food banks in eight New England and mid-Atlantic states. The two food banks in New Jersey benefiting from the initiative were Community FoodBank of New Jersey in Hillside and Food Bank of South Jersey in Pennsauken.
Price Rite Marketplace of Fall River, Mass., is the top fundraising store this year, raising more than $3,000 for The Greater Boston Food Bank.
“The Check-Out Hunger campaign is a cherished tradition for Price Rite, and we’re incredibly thankful for our customers and team members who have made this an annual success. Their support truly impacts the communities we serve,” said Kevin McDonnell, president of Price Rite Marketplace. “With so many of our neighbors struggling with food insecurity, these donations help food banks provide critical assistance to individuals and families when it’s needed most.”
In addition to the “Check-Out Hunger” campaign, Price Rite Marketplace contributes about $500,000 to local food banks and food pantries each year through the “Feeding Minds & Bodies” initiative, in partnership with Feed the Children.
