Atlantic City Electric and Sustainable Jersey open Sustainable Communities Grant Program

Atlantic City Electric announced Tuesday that it opened its Sustainable Communities Grant Program in partnership with Sustainable Jersey for the sixth consecutive year. The program, which has distributed $315,000 in funds across South Jersey, supports projects focused on environmental stewardship, open space preservation and improvements to parks and recreation resources.

The application period is open now through June 30, 2025. Municipalities across South Jersey are encouraged to apply. Learn more and access the application on Sustainable Jersey’s website.

“Supporting our customers and the places they call home is central to everything we do,” said Phil Vavala, region president of Atlantic City Electric. “From repairing emergency vehicles to creating new canoe trails, we’ve seen what’s possible when community-driven ideas get the support they deserve, and we’re proud to help make it happen.”

Municipalities across South Jersey are eligible to apply for the program, which includes $25,000 in environmental stewardship grants for projects that restore habitats, support native plantings and improve access to outdoor spaces. An additional $10,000 in resiliency grants is available for community-driven solutions that enhance safety and reliability during emergencies, including severe weather events.

“These grants empower municipalities to carry out environmental and resiliency initiatives that bolster our protection against extreme weather and climate change impacts here in New Jersey,” said Randall Solomon, executive director of Sustainable Jersey. “We appreciate our collaboration with Atlantic City Electric in advancing meaningful projects through the Sustainable Communities Grant Program.”

The Sustainable Communities Grant Program is one way that Atlantic City Electric supports South Jersey in meeting its clean energy and climate goals. Through a range of programs — from supporting the expansion of electric vehicle infrastructure to investing in renewable energy and offering rebates for energy-efficient appliances and home upgrades — the company is helping create a more sustainable, energy-smart future for the region.
