BCB Bank names Penaranda business development officer for Hudson County

BCB Bank welcomed Gus Penaranda, former executive director of the New Jersey Pride Chamber of Commerce (NJPCC), as its new business development officer, overseeing operations in the Hudson County region.

Penaranda brings with him a wealth of experience and an expansive network spanning the tri-state area. Notably, he played a key role in the passage of groundbreaking legislation making New Jersey the first and only state in the nation to legally recognize LGBTQ+ businesses through the Division of Revenue Business Certification Program.

This certification program opens the door for eligible businesses to participate in set-aside or goal-based contracting opportunities with state agencies. Additionally, certification provides state-backed documentation of your business status, which can be a vital asset when pursuing opportunities at the local, state and federal levels — as well as within the private sector.

In a significant move to promote equity and access, the New Jersey Department of the Treasury has waived the $100 application fee for certification indefinitely. This initiative supports small, minority, women, veteran, disabled veteran, socially and economically disadvantaged and LGBTQ+-owned business enterprises.

“Sometimes in life, you’re presented with opportunities you weren’t looking for but that align perfectly with your purpose,” said Penaranda. “For me, this is one of those moments. When I moved on from NJPCC in 2024, I continued my work through my organization, Evolvere. Now, with BCB Bank, I can further expand the resources and services I offer to New Jersey’s business community. This alignment of passion and purpose is a welcome surprise, and I look forward to growing my impact and network to help build a better New Jersey for business.”

Penaranda will be based at BCB Bank’s Washington Street Office in Jersey City, where he will continue his mission of empowering small and midsize businesses through meaningful partnerships, financial solutions and community engagement.
