Editor’s Note: This story is the final installment in a special three-part series leading up to ROI-NJ’s upcoming fireside chat, “The Sandwich Generation.”

On May 14, 2025, Melissa V. Skrocki will join Kirthi Mani and Dr. Jessica Israel in a frank and insightful discussion about her experiences as a woman in the ‘sandwich’ generation. This special ROI NJ event is one of a series of programs designed for and about women of all generations in the business and nonprofit communities in our state.
Melissa is a shareholder in the Corporate and Intellectual Property Law practice groups of Giordano, Halleran & Ciesla, PC. GH&C is a business -centered law firm with approximately 65 attorneys headquartered in Red Bank, NJ with offices in Saddle Brook and Manhattan. By blending her two practice areas, Melissa is able to counsel her business clients through business transactions with the benefit of protecting, leveraging and maintaining the intellectual property assets of the client. Drawing on her depth of expertise in two key practices enables Melissa to adopt a value-added approach for each client based on their unique circumstances.
While Melissa’s success in navigating her professional career has led to a demanding schedule, she is also committed to several nonprofit organizations. Her dedication to the community is evident in her role as Immediate Past Chair of the Board of Directors for EasterSeals New Jersey and her role as the Association for Corporate Growth (ACG) NJ’s Advisory Board Secretary. She also supports other initiatives such Allaire Community Farm, Rami’s-Heart Covid-19 Memorial, serving on various school committees and involvement in local sports organizations with her children.
But as you will learn on May 14, that is just the beginning.
On one side of the sandwich, Melissa juggles responsibilities for teenage twin girls and a pre-teen son while on the other side of the sandwich she helps address the needs of three aging parents and an adult sister-in-law with special needs. Some days, on one side of the spectrum, this may require a simple check-in phone call while at other times it means helping to navigate medical care. But the demands of the other side of the spectrum continue as Melissa and her husband determine how to juggle back to school parent night for their 3 children at 3 different schools or navigating the sometime daunting schedule of sports, theater and part-time work that define her children’s world.
Join us for a dynamic conversation as Melissa, Kirthi and Jessica explore how to succeed in the sandwich generation. Learn how important it is to maintain a network of friends, create a supportive community, and prioritize your focus in order to make it all work.
Melissa summed it up this way: “When I was child my dad taught me that in life you have two choices: make it an adventure or make it an ordeal. It’s entirely your choice! Keeping an adventure mindset has made a world of difference navigating a demanding career and full home life.”
