Ocean State Job Lot, a fast-growing discount retail chain based in North Kingston, R.I., opened its newest store Saturday, May 17, at Barnegat, its first location in Ocean County.
Ocean State Job Lot’s latest store is located at 580 North Main Street in Barnegat. It is the retailer’s eighth store in New Jersey. The 29,797-square-foot space had been occupied by Big Lots, which is reorganizing its business after seeking bankruptcy protection last year and reopening stores. Ocean State Job Lot said it plans two more stores in the area this spring.
Company executives joined Deputy Mayor Albert Bille and other local officials for a celebration that highlighted the company’s continued investment in revitalizing retail sites and expanding job opportunities in the region.
As part of Ocean State Job Lot’s commitment to the communities it serves, the Ocean State Job Lot Charitable Foundation donated “Operation Sleep Well Kits” to the veterans transitional home at Vetwork and $500 to the Popcorn Park Animal Refuge. Additionally, a 30% discount valid on May 17 and May 18 was extended to firefighters and the EPA of the communities affected by the recent wildfires.
This location has created jobs for the area, including supervisory, full-time, part-time, and seasonal roles. Ocean State Job Lot says it expects to hire up to 70 employees per store. The company plans to continue its expansion across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic with additional store openings throughout 2025.
The other New Jersey Ocean State Job Lot stores are in Clinton, Deptford, Franklin Park, Freehold, Holmdel, South Plainfield, and Sparta.
Founded in 1977, Ocean State Job Lot is a privately held discount retail chain with 163 stores in New England, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Maryland, with about 5,600 employees.
