McCarter & English, LLP announced Monday that trusts and estates attorneys Jill Lebowitz and Abbey Horwitz have joined the firm’s tax, employee benefits, trusts, estates, and private clients practice group in the Newark office.
Lebowitz joins as a partner and Horwitz as special counsel. Both came from Coughlin Midlige & Garland LLP.
“Jill and Abbey are a welcome addition to the firm,” said Timothy Ferges, chair of the tax, employee benefits, trusts, estates and private clients practice group. “Jill is widely respected for her sophisticated tax and estate planning knowledge and for her leadership within the legal community. Abbey brings compassion, precision, and deep dedication to her work.”
Lebowitz has nearly 30 years of experience and represents individuals, fiduciaries, family and corporate foundations, and charitable organizations in estate planning, trust and estate administration, and tax matters.
Lebowitz is the New Jersey State Chair of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel and a past chair of the New Jersey State Bar Association’s real property, trust and estate law section, where she continues to serve on the section’s board of consultors.
Horwitz counsels individuals and families in preparing wills, revocable and irrevocable trusts—including insurance, grantor retained annuity, and qualified domestic trusts—as well as durable powers of attorney and healthcare directives. Horwitz also manages trust and estate administration, handles guardianship matters, and assists clients with forming and structuring business entities.
Horwitz serves on the Board of Trustees and Development Committee for the P.G. Chambers School, a nonprofit organization supporting children with disabilities and developmental delays. She is the parent of a child with special needs, and brings technical skill as well as unique empathy and insight to clients dealing with similar challenges in their estate planning.
