Neptune hospital second in N.J. to receive electrophysiology accreditation

The American College of Cardiology (ACC) recently recognized Hackensack Meridian Jersey Shore University Medical Center for its expertise and commitment in treating patients who come to its electrophysiology lab for care.

Jersey Shore is the second New Jersey hospital to be awarded EP Accreditation by ACC based on onsite evaluation of the staff’s ability to evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients who come to the EP lab. The academic medical center has also achieved the ACC’s most prestigious recognition HeartCARE Center National Distinction of Excellence.

EP labs provide care for patients with arrhythmias (an abnormality in the timing or pattern of the heartbeat) and may employ treatments such as cardiac ablation and implantable devices such as pacemakers, and implantable cardioverter defibrillators.

“I’m extremely proud of our cardiologists and cardiovascular teams’ wonderful dedication to providing the best care to each and every patient who comes through our doors,” said Vito Buccellato, president and chief hospital executive, Jersey Shore University Medical Center.

Hospitals receiving EP Accreditation from the ACC must take part in a multi-faceted clinical process that involves completing a gap analysis; examining variances of care; developing an action plan; a rigorous onsite review; and monitoring for sustained success.
