Denholtz, a privately held investment management firm, said it hired Jonathan Callahan as general counsel.
Callahan will oversee all legal matters and serve as a member of the firm’s executive leadership team, providing support to Denholtz’s capital markets, property management, and asset-management operations in particular.
“Throughout his career, Jonathan has demonstrated a proven ability to enhance and transform the organizations that he’s been part of,” said Katie Kurtz, chief executive officer at Denholtz. “We are confident that his deep expertise and diverse skill set will help us achieve our strategic growth goals.”
Callahan joins Denholtz from Related Management Co., a subsidiary of The Related Cos., where he served as senior vice president and general counsel. In this role, he oversaw all legal and affordable-housing compliance functions for the company’s corporate platform, as well as 450 multifamily properties in 23 states and the District of Columbia.
Prior to that job, Callahan served as managing counsel at Reliant Realty Services, a New York City-based property-management firm. During his time there, Callahan redesigned the company’s in-house legal department, resulting in a reduction of rent arrears and an influx of monthly cash collections.
Earlier in his career, Callahan also held roles as litigation counsel at StuyTown Property Services and CompassRock Real Estate, where he most notably oversaw the creation of an in-house litigation team for the largest rental multifamily project in the United States, and Associate Attorney at Rose & Rose, a boutique real estate litigation and regulatory firm.
