New Jersey Prevention Network adds ‘The Learning Center’ for prevention and addiction professionals

The New Jersey Prevention Network (NJPN) has launched “The Learning Center,” a training and professional development resource for professionals in the fields of substance use prevention, clinical treatment, and peer-recovery support.

The new Learning Center expands NJPN’s training of professionals in private or non-grant-funded settings, empowering them with the knowledge, skills, and tools they need to provide impactful services to communities in need.

The center offers continuing education units, advanced credentials, and best practices to any prevention specialist, addiction counselor, or peer recovery support worker in New Jersey, and provides a new professional pathway for more people interested in pursuing and/or advancing a career in public and behavioral health.

New Jersey ranked 26th among states in the number of drug-related deaths per 100,000 at 31.6  in 2022, the latest year available, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The state was 11th in total fatalities related to narcotics that year with 2,985.

“As the addiction and recovery landscape grows more complex—with high overdose rates, co-occurring disorders, and staffing shortages—the demand for a well-prepared, adaptable workforce has never been greater,” said Diane Litterer, executive director, NJPN. “By expanding the reach of our education, we are building a more resilient, prepared, and effective workforce capable of meeting the challenges of addiction throughout New Jersey.”

This initiative builds on NJPN’s 25-year legacy of strengthening New Jersey’s behavioral health continuum of care through:
