Leaders from AtlantiCare and Select Medical, as well as local officials, Thursday gathered to celebrate a milestone in the construction of a new inpatient rehabilitation hospital by signing a ceremonial steel beam that will be placed inside the facility as it enters its next phase of development.
The new inpatient rehabilitation hospital is a joint venture partnership between AtlantiCare, southeastern New Jersey’s largest health system, and Select Medical, one of the nation’s largest providers of post-acute care.
The two healthcare organizations are collaborating to build a 60-bed, all-private-room inpatient rehabilitation hospital, scheduled to open in mid-2026. It is 1 mile east of AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center – Mainland Campus in Galloway Township. The facility will expand access to advanced, specialized care for patients recovering from stroke, brain and spinal cord injuries, amputation, orthopedic trauma, neurological disorders, and other complex medical conditions.
“This hospital fills a critical need in our region. In partnership with Select Medical, we are creating a destination for high-quality rehabilitation care that patients and families can access right here at home,” said Michael Charlton, president and CEO of AtlantiCare.
The three-story hospital will be staffed by physiatrists (physicians board-certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation), certified rehabilitation nurses, physical and occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, respiratory therapists, case managers, dietitians, and other specialists supporting each patient’s recovery journey.
The new AtlantiCare Rehabilitation Hospital will be located at Bacharach Park, a name chosen to honor the legacy of the Bacharach Institute for Rehabilitation, which served the region for nearly a century.
