Verogy, a West Hartford-based solar developer, and NJR Clean Energy Ventures, the renewable energy subsidiary of New Jersey Resources, Monday broke ground on Glastonbury Solar One, a 3-megawatt community solar project located in Glastonbury, Conn.
This marks the first project under construction from the strategic partnership between the two organizations announced in October 2024 to develop solar and solar plus battery energy storage projects across the Northeast.
Glastonbury Solar One is part of a group of 18 projects in advanced stages of development spanning Connecticut, Maine, Pennsylvania, and Rhode Island. These projects total more than 52 megawatts in capacity. Once completed, the projects are expected to generate enough to power more than 7,400 U.S. homes.
“The groundbreaking of Glastonbury Solar One symbolizes a significant step forward in our partnership with CEV,” said Will Herchel, CEO of Verogy. “This project exemplifies our shared commitment to expanding equitable clean energy access, supporting local communities, and driving sustainable development.”
Glastonbury Solar One is located on a 15-acre site and is being developed as part of Connecticut’s Shared Clean Energy Facility (SCEF) program. SCEF, administered by the Connecticut Department of Energy & Environmental Protection, is designed to expand access to solar energy benefits for residents and businesses unable to install rooftop solar systems. Subscribers will receive monthly credits on their electricity bills, providing annual savings, particularly for low- and moderate-income households.
CEV is one of New Jersey’s largest solar owner/operators. With over $1.2 billion invested, CEV maintains a portfolio of approximately 420 MW of installed capacity across six states.
