Hackensack Meridian Mountainside Medical Center announced June 24 the opening of its newly renovated cardiac catheterization lab, a milestone in the hospital’s ongoing investment in advanced cardiovascular care.
The renovated catheterization lab is within Mountainside Medical Center, a 365-bed acute care hospital in Montclair with more than 1,400 employees. The entire catheterization lab is about 5,320 square feet, with the remodeled room sized at approximately 670 square feet. The cost for the build including the new machine was more than $5.4 million.
The upgraded facility now features the Siemens Healthineers ARTIS icono, an imaging system that enhances the precision, safety, and efficiency of minimally invasive cardiac procedures.
“This space empowers our team to deliver cutting-edge cardiovascular care while advancing research, innovation, and education for the future,” said Ankit Patel, medical director of interventional cardiology.
At the core of the ARTIS icono system is a smart imaging technology called OPTIQ, which helps doctors see clearer images during procedures while keeping radiation exposure as low as possible. It automatically adjusts settings based on the patient and the angle of the scan, so doctors get the best possible view with the least amount of radiation. It also includes a feature that helps guide doctors through blood vessels more easily, making procedures safer and more efficient.
The new ARTIS icono floor system is designed to support a wide range of procedures, especially those involving the heart, blood vessels, and certain types of cancer.
“The ARTIS icono family of angiography systems will have nothing short of a revolutionary impact on our customers and on the delivery of healthcare in general,” said Lara Barghout, Senior Vice President and Head of Advanced Therapies, Siemens Healthineers North America.
