The American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses announced on July 16 that Pete Pomilio will become its chief executive officer, effective July 23.
This appointment comes after a months-long national search and will coincide with the planned retirement of Kevin G. Dill, who has served ASPAN as CEO for 30 years. Under Dill’s leadership, ASPAN moved operations from a management company to create its own national office, streamlined its mode of governance, and solidified its financial foundation.
Pomilio brings two decades of non-profit executive leadership to ASPAN, most recently as the CEO of the American Academy of Ambulatory Care Nursing and the Society of Urologic Nurses and Associates. Previously, he worked as CEO for the American Board of Clinical Social Work as well as the COO for the Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance. ASPAN cited his record of working with boards to grow membership, expand educational opportunities, and achieve long-term objectives via strategic planning. He’ll be based at the national office in Cherry Hill.
The transition comes as the society looks to expand its organizational capacity to further advance the perianesthesia nursing profession.
“ASPAN’s decision to appoint Pomilio reflects its commitment to advancing the field of perianesthesia nursing through dynamic leadership,” said President Ursula Mellinger. “With an extensive background in managing professional associations, Pete will bring fresh initiatives that further strengthen ASPAN’s role as a cornerstone of education, advocacy, and professional development for its members nationwide. His expertise in strategic planning and fostering collaborative environments aligns perfectly with ASPAN’s mission to empower perianesthesia nurses and elevate standards of care across diverse healthcare settings.”
The American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses represents the interests of 60,000 nurses in preanesthesia and postanesthesia care, ambulatory surgery, and pain management.
