Jefferson Washington Township Hospital announced that several clinicians have been recognized for delivering outstanding care to patients.
Members of the ground-level medical surgical unit have been awarded the esteemed DAISY Team Award for Extraordinary Nurses due to the exceptional compassion and dedication to patient-centered care they recently demonstrated toward a nonverbal, autistic patient who stayed for nearly a month.
Along with teaching the patient how to communicate their basic needs, examples of the unit supporting the patient’s comfort and care included providing soothing personal items, bringing in clothing, snacks and personal care items, assisting with daily walks and providing coloring books and other entertainment.
Additionally, in a different surgical unit on the hospital’s fifth floor, Patient Care Technician Chris Adair has been awarded the prestigious Being Extraordinary Everyday (BEE) Award. Recently, a grateful patient praised the West Deptford resident for his kindness, attentiveness and respect.
“Chris began his shift by bringing fresh water and asking how I was feeling. He helped me with my IV pole, made sure I had what I needed to wash up and always respected my privacy,” said the patient. Adair also engaged in many friendly conversations, encompassing everything from TV, books and crocheting.
“His compassion and conversation helped ease my loneliness and anxiety. He even made my guests feel welcome, always asking if they needed anything,” added the patient.
