Rider University – Student Superpower: Opportunities to learn business operations from the NFL and NHL

What “essential skills” do you see as most critical for the future workforce in New Jersey?

Through a network of thoughtfully designed partnerships, Rider University is dedicated to expanding educational access, empowering professional growth and creating transformational learning opportunities.

How is your institution partnering with employers to ensure graduates are workforce-ready?

Partnerships with a number of New Jersey community colleges and major employers like the State of New Jersey and Capital Health allow Garden State residents to advance their education through Rider’s more than 100 majors, minors and programs.

Three particular partnerships provide Rider students with unique, real-world experiences, the hallmark of a Rider education. Each semester, the University’s Saxby’s cafe operates under the leadership of a student CEO who manages every aspect of the business from operations to finances, while earning a salary and academic credit. As “An Official Higher Education Partner of the New York Giants” and an “Official Partner of the New Jersey Devils and Prudential Center,” Rider offers students a variety of opportunities for invaluable lessons from two professional sports organizations. Through internships, special events and classroom experiences, students are exposed to various aspects of the business side of the NFL and NHL.

One recent Rider alumnus, Clinton Asante-Addo ’24, landed a full-time position as a corporate partnerships associate with the New York Mets after completing a full-time internship with the Giants last year. Asante-Addo credits the internship as a pivotal experience that helped shape his career.

  1. What efforts are being made to reach underrepresented communities and ensure equitable access to workforce pathways?
