Veolia completed its purchase of the Manalapan Township Water System, furthering the expansion of its drinking water and wastewater services across the state.
Township officials and Veolia representatives participated in a ceremony on Oct. 2 at the Manalapan Township Municipal Complex to commemorate the acquisition.
The newly acquired water system serves about 3,500 homes and businesses in the township. Veolia said Manalapan customers can expect enhanced operational efficiency, improved water quality monitoring, attentive customer service and significant infrastructure investments to ensure long-term system reliability.
The planned projects are for water main and valve replacements; construction of a drinking water treatment facility; and water storage tank restoration projects
Alan Weland, regional president, Veolia Water New Jersey, said, “In line with our GreenUp strategic program this acquisition represents a significant milestone in our commitment to providing exceptional water services and infrastructure improvements in the region. Our focus now shifts to implementing the critical infrastructure upgrades that will ensure reliable, high-quality water service.”
The acquisition follows a referendum in November 2024 when 67% of Manalapan voters approved the sale of the system to Veolia. Veolia bought the system for $4 million after voters approved the sale. The company’s purchase of the system was approved on Sept. 10, 2025, by the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities.
The Manalapan acquisition marks the company’s sixth in New Jersey since 2018.
