The Town of Dover announced it is partnering with Claro, a global leader in IT and cybersecurity solutions, to deploy advanced AI-driven surveillance technology across its municipal buildings.
This initiative, which enhances both security and operational efficiency, is already being recognized as a model for smart city innovation.
With the help of Claro, Dover was able to integrate AI video analytics, such as visible weapons detection and facial recognition, into its existing camera system – avoiding the significant cost and disruption of an infrastructure overhaul.
“As a small municipality, we don’t have the budget for constant law enforcement presence,” said Mayor James Dodd. “Claro gave us the ability to enhance safety with cutting-edge technology that works with what we already have.”
From the municipal building and public library to the fire and police departments, the integrated system helps Dover address a wide range of public safety concerns, which include active shooter preparedness; crime deterrence and investigation support; illegal dumping detection; and traffic and crowd monitoring.
As part of its long-term strategy, the Town of Dover plans to expand the use of AI video analytics throughout the business district and other key community zones.
Councilman Sergio Rodriguez, who helped lead the initiative, believes the partnership demonstrates how public-private collaboration can produce meaningful change.
“Claro wasn’t just selling a product,” he said. “They listened to our needs and delivered solutions that worked for the Town of Dover.”
Dover officials praised Claro’s quick response times, technical expertise and community-first attitude.
“Your product is only as good as the service behind it,” said Mayor Dodd. “Claro delivers on both fronts.”
