Holy Name Medical Center obstetrics and gynecology residency program gets full accreditation

Holy Name, New Jersey’s only independent Catholic health system, said Oct. 23 that its graduate medical education program has been recognized with full accreditation of its obstetrics and gynecology residency program by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. The health care system will welcome its first class of residents in the summer of 2026.

The new residency program is built upon Holy Name’s commitment to patient-centered health care and aims to equip young physicians with the clinical, research and educational skills necessary for professional and personal success. Through a culturally sensitive, evidence-based and comprehensive educational experience, residents will gain the tools and mentorship needed to be leaders in women’s health.

“Our mission is to provide an exceptional learning environment where residents can develop the full spectrum of skills required to excel as obstetricians and gynecologists,” said Dr. Sharyn N. Lewin, obstetrics and gynecology residency program director at Holy Name. “By integrating community-based training with academic rigor, we are preparing physicians to not only deliver excellent clinical care but also lead with empathy and integrity.”

“Residents in our program will benefit from diverse clinical experiences, supportive mentorship and a collaborative learning culture,” said Dr. Vasantha Kondamudi, chief medical officer and designated institutional officer. “This program represents Holy Name’s dedication to advancing women’s health and medical education in our community.”

The program also prepares graduates to become candidates and eventual diplomats of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology or the American Osteopathic Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
