Newmark Associates partners with Newark School of Architecture & Interior Design

Newmark Associates, a leading full-service commercial real estate firm, is the industry partner of the Newark School of Architecture & Interior Design (NSAID), the newest high school in the Newark Public Schools district.

As part of the high school design strategy in Newark, NSAID has formalized a collaboration with Newmark to provide internship opportunities for students. These internships are designed to integrate academic study with practical experience, offering students the opportunity to apply their skills to projects in commercial real estate development and management.

“These internships give students a true window into the commercial real estate industry,” said Ebony Parham, vice president at Newmark Associates and creator of the internship program. “They will work alongside experienced professionals, contribute to real projects, and build skills that translate directly into future career opportunities. We are proud to help students take their first steps toward successful pathways in architecture, design, and real estate.”

Through this partnership, students will gain exposure to real-world projects, receive mentorship from professionals in the field, and augment their understanding of the relationship between design, economics, and the built environment.

“We are honored to support the school’s mission and contribute to the preparation of future leaders in architecture and design,” said Susanne Newmark, president and CEO at Newmark Associates. “By offering students meaningful experiences within the commercial real estate sector, we help connect academic study to the realities of industry practice.”

The Newark School of Architecture & Interior Design provides students opportunities to study architecture, the building trades of plumbing, electrical work, and HVAC (heating, air conditioning, and ventilation) systems, and real estate. Enrollment will grow by one grade each year. The school welcomed 212 ninth graders this fall, who will form its first graduating class in 2029.

“This partnership exemplifies what makes Newark Public Schools extraordinary,” said Superintendent Roger León. “By connecting our students with hands-on internships through Newmark Associates, we are empowering students to apply their design and planning skills in real commercial settings. These experiences help our students see themselves as emerging professionals and leaders who will shape the future of Newark and beyond.”
