Valley National Bancorp, the holding company for Valley National Bank, said this week that Matthew Verney was named chief banking officer for the Philadelphia and South Jersey market. He is responsible for leading the strategic direction and performance of the bank’s commercial expansion into this region.
Verney has over 13 years of banking experience, most recently as the market president for Truist Bank where he expanded that institution’s New Jersey presence and commercial growth efforts. Before entering the banking industry, Verney held senior leadership roles in the hospitality and government sectors, where he expanded brands into new markets and drove sustainable growth.
“Matthew brings extensive experience to Valley with a proven commercial growth track record,” said Gino Martocci, senior executive vice president and president of commercial banking for Valley Bank.
“The Philadelphia region presents significant opportunities for Valley to serve a diverse and growing business community, foster new commercial relationships, and support local economic development. With Matthew’s leadership, we are well positioned to capitalize on emerging market trends, deliver innovative financial solutions, and deepen our commitment to clients across the area.”
Verney also served in the United States Marine Corps as a commissioned officer.
“By leveraging Valley’s strong foundation and client-focused approach, we’re well positioned to deepen relationships and drive continued market expansion,” said Verney.
