Port Authority issues travel advisory through Dec. 4

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has issued a travel advisory for those who use the agency’s facilities to plan ahead and consider additional travel time due to the lane closures or service changes.

PATH:

  • During overnights from 11:59 p.m. to 5 a.m., the 9 St and 23 St stations are closed for maintenance. Customers can use the nearby Christopher St and 33 St stations.
  • Customers who use the PATH World Trade Center station during overnights should use the street level entrances at Fulton Street or Vesey Street via the North Concourse in the 2 World Trade Center transit lobby. Oculus access is limited overnight from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m. All other entrances will be closed.

 Airports and AirTrain:

  • To manage on-airport parking demand at Newark Liberty International Airport, LaGuardia Airport and John F. Kennedy International Airport, the Port Authority is urgently calling on air travelers to use mass transit and to pre-book parking spaces if they plan to travel to the airport by private car. Travelers who do not pre-book will be charged a peak period drive-up surcharge and may not be able to find a parking spot at the airport.

 Newark Liberty International Airport:

  • Until further notice, all shuttles to off-airport hotels/motels/rental cars have been relocated from the P4 station to P3 station due to construction activity for the new AirTrain Newark. The P3 station will be accessible via AirTrain Newark. More information is available here.
  • As a reminder, on weeknights and weekends through the end of the year, Newark Liberty’s Runway 4L-22R will be closed for rehabilitation. The work may affect flight schedules. Travelers are urged to check with their airline for any status changes.

The Port Authority on Monday also announced facility traffic for the month of October.

PANYNJ said its commercial airports recorded their third-busiest October ever, welcoming 12.3 million passengers, despite the challenges posed by the government shutdown, which began Oct. 1. October 2024 and October 2023 were the agency’s first- and second-busiest Octobers, respectively.

The PATH commuter rail posted its second-busiest month since the pandemic, reaching 75 percent of pre-pandemic ridership. The month’s passenger total of 5.7 million was only 0.1% below October 2024 (October 2024 was PATH’s busiest month since the pandemic).

October 2025 ridership was 75.2% of pre-pandemic October 2019 ridership. Average weekday ridership in October 2025 was 216,640 passengers. This was the second-highest average weekday figure since the pandemic, 0.5 percent behind September 2025. It was 2.4 percent above October 2024.

From January through October, 101.2 million eastbound vehicles were recorded at the agency’s six vehicular crossings. This was 0.4% below the same period of 2024 when adjusting for that leap year’s extra day, and 0.5% less than the same period of 2019.

The agency’s vehicular crossings recorded 10.4 million eastbound vehicles in October 2025. This was 1.4% below October 2024 and 0.6% below October 2019, before the pandemic.
