Rowan University, NEIEP announce partnership

Rowan University and the National Elevator Industry Educational Program (NEIEP) recently celebrated a new partnership with a ceremonial signing event at NEIEP’s Rhode Island training center.

The collaboration creates new academic pathways for members of the International Union of Elevator Constructors (IUEC), where members earn college credit for their apprenticeship training and advance toward a Rowan degree and certificate.

“Programs like this make education affordable and accessible to skilled workers,” said David Coyner, Rowan’s vice president for Academic Innovation & Online Partnerships. “By complementing apprenticeship training with flexible learning opportunities, we’re delivering education where it’s needed most and helping to build successful outcomes for students and professionals alike.”

The NEIEP is responsible for managing curriculum design and administering training and evaluation programs for new hires entering the trade.

Through this partnership, IUEC members who complete the NEIEP’s apprenticeship program can earn up to 45 college credits toward Rowan Online’s Bachelor of Arts in construction management (BACM) or one of three Certificate of Undergraduate Study (CUGS) programs. Apprentices earn credits during their training, which reduces the time and cost required to complete a degree significantly.

“NEIEP is committed to the continuing education of IUEC members, and we believe this partnership with Rowan provides an excellent opportunity for NEIEP graduates to further their education with leadership training and technical skills that will benefit them at all stages of their career,” said Brigid Flynn, writing and development manager for NEIEP.

The NEIEP serves as the training arm of the IUEC, which represents more than 31,000 members nationwide.

Like the recent agreement with OPCMIA, this partnership follows Rowan’s initiative to create alternative pathways for working professionals.
