Newark law firm Genova Burns announced Jan. 7 the appointment of Jennifer Borek as managing partner, becoming the first woman to hold the firm’s top leadership role in its more than 35-year history.
Borek’s practice focuses on complex commercial litigation, government contracts and procurement law, employment litigation and appellate advocacy.
In addition to her litigation practice, Borek has played an integral role in firm leadership, mentoring attorneys, fostering collaboration across practice groups, and contributing to Genova Burns’ long-term strategic initiatives. Her new role reflects the firm’s confidence in her ability to guide Genova Burns in its continued growth while preserving its core values.
Genova Burns said Borek’s appointment also reflects a balance of continuity and forward momentum for the firm. She follows strong prior leadership and brings a measured, strategic approach to firm management, with an emphasis on long-term growth, client service and talent development.
“Today the firm transitions to the next generation of leadership,” said Jim Burns, co-founding partner of Genova Burns and its most recent managing partner. “The firm builds on Jennifer’s more than two decades at Genova Burns, particularly over the last several years when she was tapped to lead the firm’s commercial litigation practice group to a new level. Given her well-earned reputation for common sense, crisp, analytical intelligence and no-nonsense, get-to-the-point approach,” Burns added, “I am proud to turn over the reins to Jen.”
As managing partner, Borek will oversee the firm’s strategic direction and operations while continuing to maintain an active practice.
“I am honored to step into the role of managing Genova Burns,” Borek said. “I look forward to working with our firm’s founding partners to continue the firm’s commitment to excellence in the profession; and – along with our extraordinary lawyers and staff – building and growing upon that legacy.”
