Newark-based law firm Genova Burns appoints McDonnell as counsel

Genova Burns LLC said Jan. 12 that Jaclynn McDonnell has been elevated to Counsel, recognizing her exceptional legal work, leadership within the firm, and sustained commitment to community service.

McDonnell is a member of the firm’s bankruptcy, restructuring, and creditors’ rights practice, where she represents a range of clients in complex bankruptcy proceedings, workouts, and insolvency-related matters. Her practice spans Chapter 7, 11, and 13 cases in federal bankruptcy courts, with a particular focus on high-stakes commercial bankruptcies and asset-recovery matters. She represents bankruptcy trustees, secured and unsecured creditors, creditor committees, lenders, and other fiduciaries.

McDonnell has earned a reputation for delivering thoughtful, results-driven solutions in matters involving significant financial exposure and operational complexity.

Beyond her legal practice, McDonnell has emerged as a leader within Genova Burns’ firm culture and community outreach efforts. A mother of two, she exemplifies the balance of professional excellence and personal commitment, while serving as a driving force behind the firm’s charitable initiatives.

She has been at the forefront of Genova Burns’ annual Thanksgiving drive supporting Newark Public Schools, coordinated holiday gift donations for the Salvation Army, and is spearheading a new firmwide initiative focused on promoting literacy and access to reading resources in underserved communities.

“Jaclynn’s elevation to Counsel reflects not only her legal skill and professionalism, but also the leadership and heart she brings to our firm,” said Jennifer Borek, managing partner of Genova Burns. She sets an example through her advocacy for clients, her mentorship of colleagues, and her dedication to giving back. We are proud to recognize her contributions and excited to see her continue to grow in this role.”

Earlier this month, Borek was named managing partner, becoming the first woman to hold the firm’s top leadership role in its more than 35-year history.
