Two physician-led specialty care initiatives at Merwick Care & Rehabilitation Center launched this winter as a response to regional health care demand. The Plainsboro skilled nursing center offers Cardiac Rehab and Pulmonary Rehab programs – designed to promote independence and quality of life for patients.
Under the direction of cardiologist Dr. Sarika Sharma, Merwick’s cardiac rehab services are designed to assist people suffering from challenging or life-threatening heart conditions, including those recovering from a cardiac event or surgical procedure, and those at risk for cardiovascular disease.
Pulmonologist Dr. Mir S. Ahmad is leading Merwick’s pulmonary rehab initiative. Services aim to reduce pulmonary symptoms, decrease disability and increase participation in physical and social activities. The initiative caters to those with a range of diagnoses and conditions.
“Merwick Care & Rehabilitation Center is committed to providing transformative programming and enhancing quality of life for those in their care,” said Jennifer Lucas, regional director of care transition at Marquis Health Consulting Services, which supports the center. “The additions of cardiac rehab and pulmonary rehab reflect Merwick’s emphasis on developing in-demand initiatives in partnership with leading area healthcare providers.”
Sharma is triple board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease and nuclear cardiology; she has a subspecialty in adult congenital heart disease. Sharma is affiliated with award-winning Hackensack Meridian Health.
Ahmad is board certified in pulmonology and is affiliated with Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and St. Peter’s University Hospital. He has experience in diagnosing and treating lung and respiratory conditions.
Marquis Health Consulting Services provides administrative consulting services to nursing facilities and senior living communities along the Eastern Seaboard.
