Former N.J. Attorney General Platkin launches new firm, Platkin LLP

Former New Jersey Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin announced the launch of Platkin LLP, a new law firm that he founded.

The firm includes senior litigators from the AG’s office who have led some of the nation’s most consequential legal fights against big technology, for gun violence prevention and democracy protection.

“I am excited to launch Platkin LLP, a mission-driven law firm alongside colleagues from the AG office to hold the world’s most powerful corporations and institutions accountable when they break the law and harm the public,” said Platkin.

“During my tenure as attorney general, I used the law to drive meaningful change in the face of injustice. Now, through high-stakes litigation and investigations, we will continue to fight against powerful wrongdoers to protect residents, communities and democracy. Platkin LLP is built for this very moment.”

The firm’s founding team brings deep experience from the New Jersey AG’s office, as well as from litigating in both government and private practice. The team has handled complex, high-stakes litigation involving public corruption, corporate accountability, gun safety, emerging technology and holding the current administration accountable.

Members of Platkin LLP include:

Angela Cai, partner:

  • Cai is a seasoned appellate advocate and former deputy solicitor general of New Jersey who helped build the state’s Office of the Solicitor General into an elite practice. She has drafted and argued hundreds of cases across state and federal courts, earned two NAAG Best Brief Awards for U.S. Supreme Court work and clerked on the Third Circuit.

Ravi Ramanathan, partner:

  • Ramanathan represents clients in high-stakes complex litigation, drawing on senior government experience leading groundbreaking civil enforcement initiatives. As the inaugural director of New Jersey’s SAFE office, he led the nation’s first state-level civil firearms enforcement program, bringing more affirmative lawsuits against the gun industry than any other attorney general’s office.

Aaron Haier, counsel:

  • Haier represents public- and private-sector clients in complex consumer protection and unfair competition matters. He previously served as senior counsel to the N.J. attorney general, advising on consumer protection, tech accountability and antitrust enforcement.

Jaeliaya Troche, executive assistant:

  • Troche has experience supporting senior leadership across public and private sectors in fast-paced, high-visibility environments. She most recently provided high-level executive support at the New Jersey Office of the AG.

Platkin LLP said it is dedicated to representing diverse clients, including governments, individuals, organizations, nonprofits, and labor unions and will cover a variety of cases, including consumer protection, antitrust, securities, health care and environmental.

In addition to impact litigation, the firm said it will advise on complex civil litigation, appeals, independent investigations and monitorships, and crisis management.
