Amazon announces another warehouse (in Burlington) and more jobs (600)

It might not be the announcement from Amazon that New Jersey is waiting for, but it’s one the state will take.

The massive online retailer has announced plans for its 10th fulfillment center in the state.

This one will be in a 1 million-square-foot building in Burlington.

More importantly, it is expected to bring another 600 jobs.

“(The) 1 million-square-foot facility will support customer fulfillment and join our network of fulfillment centers across the state of New Jersey,” Amazon spokeswoman Rachael Lighty said in a statement.

“We are excited about our upcoming facility in Burlington, N.J., and our ability to create 600 full-time jobs for residents in the region. This approximately 1 million square foot facility will support customer fulfillment and join our network of fulfillment centers across the state of New Jersey.”

A date for the opening of the Burlington facility was not announced.

The announcement comes just a few months after the company announced in March that a 650,000-square-foot facility was coming to West Deptford. That center is expected to employ 1,000.

Amazon, which first came to New Jersey in 2012 with a center in Robbinsville, has quickly become one of the state’s largest employers, with 16,000 employees in eight centers located in Avenel, Carteret, Cranbury, Edison, Florence, Logan and Robbinsville.

There are a variety of factors we consider when selecting a location for an Amazon facility,” Lighty said. “Some of those factors include a dedicated workforce who will raise the bar on being customer obsessed as well as great local support — and we’ve found both in Burlington. We are thrilled to join the community and look forward to building relationships and being a good employer and community neighbor for years to come.”

Matrix Development Group is the landlord and developer of the Burlington facility.
