CarePlus NJ elevates VP of addiction medicine to medical director

Care Plus New Jersey recently said it appointed Dr. Jerry Joseph to the role of medical director. Joseph will oversee CarePlus NJ’s medical leadership team, which includes Dr. Tanya Lewis, vice president of child and adolescent psychiatry; Dr. Diana Riccioli, medical director of forensic psychiatry; and Dr. Charles Kim, medical director of emergency psychiatry.

Since joining CarePlus NJ as vice president of addiction medicine in 2020, Joseph has helped transform the organization’s continuum of addiction recovery services in collaboration with the medical leadership team. He has also played an integral role on CarePlus NJ’s treatment planning teams for individual care coordination, which has enhanced the collaboration of clinical leaders across the organization’s service and treatment lines while identifying and implementing best practices, developing innovative, integrated care models and ensuring the proper execution of psychiatric evaluations and medication management.

“Dr. Joseph has been instrumental in the evolution of CarePlus NJ over the past few years, especially as we navigated the COVID-19 pandemic and the tremendous challenges it created for our clients, clinicians and staff,” Joe Masciandaro, CEO and president, CarePlus NJ, stated. “Dr. Joseph’s leadership and vision will ensure that CarePlus remains the model for integrated primary and behavioral health care while continuing to evolve our programs and services to meet the diverse needs of the communities we serve.”

In his new role as medical director, Joseph will continue to oversee the success of CarePlus NJ’s comprehensive range of integrated primary and behavioral health services for adults and children, spearheading several programs as well as providing strategic direction to the medical leadership team.

“I am excited to continue my work at CarePlus NJ in this new role,” Joseph said. “I look forward to building on CarePlus NJ’s mission to improve access to quality behavioral health care and addiction treatment for the populations we serve by continuing to enhance and streamline our services to meet the full spectrum of each client’s health and wellness needs.”

Joseph is board-certified in adult psychiatry and specializes in addiction medicine. He is a member of the Academy of Addiction Psychiatry and the American Society of Addiction Medicine, and completed an addiction psychiatry fellowship from Albert Einstein School of Medicine/Montefiore Medical Center. Prior to joining CarePlus NJ, Joseph was an outpatient psychiatrist at Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care.
