Kanoon Restaurant, H&R Block secure spaces at North Brunswick shopping center

Levin adds two new tenants to Middlesex County Retail Property

Two new tenants are coming to Brunswick Shopping Center in North Brunswick. The latest additions include halal smokehouse Kanoon restaurant, at 3,250 square feet, and tax preparer H&R Block, at 1,500 square feet.

Levin Management Corp. serves as exclusive leasing and managing agent for the 288,000-square-foot property, located just off Route 1 on Milltown Road. LMC’s Vanessa Fernandez-Kelty, senior leasing representative, and Fred Younkin, leasing representative, negotiated the transactions on behalf of property ownership; Ryan Feldman of Alliance Retail Development represented H&R Block.

The new restaurant marks the second Garden State location for owner/operator Mohammad Yousuf Bhuri, who opened his first Kanoon restaurant earlier this year in Clifton. As the first halal smokehouse in New Jersey, Kanoon offers American barbecue with a Middle Eastern twist. The menu features expertly smoked and grilled meats, infused with aromatic spices.

“Many of our current patrons come from central New Jersey, making Brunswick Shopping Center the perfect choice for Kanoon’s growth,” Bhuri said. “Guests can expect the same delicious, high-quality food, warm hospitality and great experience that has made our Clifton restaurant so popular. We are looking forward to serving new and existing customers from this North Brunswick location.”

Restaurants remain among the most active sectors in retail leasing today and contribute significantly to a shopping center’s appeal, Younkin noted.

“Kanoon already has a loyal following, and the concept is a terrific fit for the property and neighborhood,” he said. “We are pleased to have accommodated their space needs at Brunswick Shopping Center and are confident Kanoon’s presence will diversify the local dining scene and be a terrific draw for local restaurant goers.”

Blending digital innovation with human expertise, H&R Block provides clients with tax preparation services, financial products and small-business solutions.

“H&R Block complements the center’s existing service-oriented tenants and undoubtedly will be a valuable amenity for many consumers,” Fernandez-Kelty said.

Brunswick Shopping Center sits in the heart of North Brunswick’s retail corridor. The retail destination draws 1.5 million visitors per year, according to real-time traffic data from Placer.ai.

Anchored by a Lidl supermarket, the property’s tenant mix includes a newly renovated LA Fitness, Dollar Tree, McDonald’s, Sherwin Williams, Sally Beauty, Community Dental, Rita’s Italian Ice & Frozen Custard, Roma Unisex Salon, Rainbow Apparel, Alex Diamond Joyeria and Magyar Bank, among others. The center serves a growing residential population of more than 280,000 residents within a five-mile radius and is proximate to both Rutgers and DeVry universities.
