NJM President and CEO Mitch Livingston to Retire; Carol Voorhees Named Successor

NJM Insurance Group today announced that Mitch Livingston, its President & Chief Executive Officer, will retire on July 31, following a 19-year career with the company, including seven years at the helm. The Board of Directors has unanimously selected Carol Voorhees, NJM’s executive vice president and COO, to succeed Livingston as the next president and CEO.

“Mitch skillfully led NJM through the most transformational period in the company’s history, expanding its products and geographic footprint to become a full-service, multi-line regional carrier,” said Edward Stern, chairman of NJM’s Board of Directors. “Throughout this growth, NJM remained steadfast in its commitment to superior policyholder service—especially during the unprecedented challenges of the COVID pandemic. We are grateful for Mitch’s leadership and his dedication to our mission.”

Stern also expressed confidence in Voorhees as NJM’s next leader.

“Carol’s deep expertise in innovation and her unwavering commitment to policyholders made her the clear choice to lead NJM into the future.”

A Legacy of Growth and Excellence

Under Livingston’s leadership, NJM earned national recognition for its service and financial strength:

  • J.D. Power ranked NJM the No. 1 Insurer in the nation for Auto Claims Satisfaction in 2024.
  • J.D. Power has certified NJM for delivering “An Outstanding Auto Claims Experience” every year since 2018.
  • Ward’s 50® has recognized NJM annually since 2022 for financial performance and operational efficiency.

Reflecting on his tenure, Livingston expressed confidence in his successor.

“It has been an honor to serve as NJM’s President and CEO. Carol has played an instrumental role in our strategic expansion, leading our data analytics transformation and overseeing key areas, including personal lines, marketing, IT, and project management. She is an exceptional leader, and I am proud to see her take NJM forward while staying true to our mission.”

Carol Voorhees: A Leader for the Future

Voorhees joined NJM in 1996 as a systems analyst and has steadily advanced through the company. She was elected senior vice p and chief information officer in 2018, joined the executive leadership team, and became executive vice president and COO in 2024.

Excited for the road ahead, Voorhees acknowledged Livingston’s impact:

“Mitch has done an extraordinary job guiding NJM through a period of remarkable growth and world-changing events. He inspires excellence in those around him, and I’ve been fortunate to work alongside him. I deeply appreciate the Board’s trust and look forward to continuing NJM’s culture of service.”
