Archer adds ex-Bergen County Chief Assistant Prosecutor Talarico as partner

Archer & Greiner said Aug. 19 that former Chief Assistant Prosecutor in Bergen County Anthony C. Talarico has joined the firm as a partner in its corporate compliance, investigations & criminal defense practice group in the Hackensack office.

Talarico brings more than a decade of experience handling high-profile, high-stakes criminal matters, experience he’ll utilize in representing clients across both criminal and civil cases.

At Archer, Talarico will focus on internal investigations, regulatory compliance, white-collar criminal defense, and complex civil litigation. His practice is positioned at the intersection of criminal law and civil liability, where strategic risk management, legal insight, and courtroom experience are critical.

During his tenure with the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, Talarico served as chief of the major crimes unit, where he oversaw the investigation and prosecution of all homicides, fatal accidents, arsons, strict liability drug cases, and suspicious deaths, supervising more than 100 active investigations at any given time. He led a team of attorneys, detectives, and forensic professionals in cases that often involved cutting-edge investigative techniques and coordination with federal and state agencies.

Under his leadership, the office launched the Strict Liability Task Force, an initiative that addressed the rise in fentanyl-related overdose deaths through aggressive legal enforcement and prosecution.

Talarico’s “unique perspective will benefit clients in both civil and criminal matters,” said Christopher Gibson, Archer president. “Talarico’s ability to dissect complex legal and factual issues, lead sophisticated investigations, and navigate both the courtroom and the boardroom makes him an invaluable asset to our clients.”

Reflecting on his new role, Talarico said, “After years in public service, I’m excited to bring that experience to a team that takes a thoughtful, strategic approach to complex legal problems. Archer’s depth across both criminal and civil matters makes it the ideal place to continue doing meaningful work.”

Prior to leading the major crimes unit, Talarico held senior roles within the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office. His public service career includes leading the Narcotics Task Force, a supervisor in the Trial Section, handling hundreds of grand jury matters. He also served as the chief legal adviser to the North Jersey Regional Cold Case Task Force where he brought to justice a regional serial killer for a 1974 double homicide.

At Archer, Talarico will represent corporate clients, executives, professionals, and individuals facing internal investigations, government scrutiny, or criminal charges. His experience with emerging investigative tools involving communication data warrants, cell phone extractions, and DNA technology enhances Archer’s ability to advise on legal issues and evolving enforcement tactics.
