On Aug. 27, ShopRite, in collaboration with TerraCycle, Essex County and several community partners, hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the Essex County South Mountain Reservation Dog Park in West Orange to mark the installation of new dog park equipment made from recycled materials collected at local ShopRite locations.
Representatives of ShopRite, TerraCycle and Campbell’s Snacks were joined by Essex County leaders to celebrate the installation. Numerous dogs and their owners also attended to enjoy the new equipment.
The event celebrated the culmination of a year-long flexible film recycling pilot that collected more than 4.6 tons of hard-to-recycle flexible packaging, such as chip bags, pet food and treat packs, and detergent pouches, which were placed into dedicated collection kiosks at five ShopRite locations in New Jersey.
Over 9,125 pounds of flexible plastic were collected and processed by TerraCycle into raw materials used to manufacture new, durable dog park equipment. This project is a testament to how public-private partnerships and community engagement can transform waste into lasting, local impact.
