David Orozco has been officially appointed by the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs as Gov. Phil Murphy’s appointee for commissioner to the Housing Authority of the City of Elizabeth (HACE). The appointment is effective immediately and extends through Dec. 12, 2029.
Orozco will serve as the state’s representative to HACE, supporting its mission to expand access to safe, stable and equitable housing for residents across the city.
Orozco’s appointment follows years of leadership in business development, community engagement and advocacy, experience that uniquely positions him to contribute to HACE’s expanding body of work. A native of Elizabeth, he has spent his career advancing inclusive economic mobility, both locally and nationwide.
“David’s appointment brings great value to the authority and to the residents we serve. His leadership, combined with his deep personal commitment to Elizabeth, will strengthen our mission and support the long-term success of our economic development and housing and redevelopment initiatives,” said William Jones, executive director of HACE.
Orozco previously led Brisas Brands as COO, a growing multicultural food and beverage company headquartered in Elizabeth. He has also been deeply involved in civic initiatives that strengthen local families, support economic mobility and create pathways for equitable community growth.
“I am honored to serve as state commissioner for HACE,” said Orozco. “The City of Elizabeth is a community that shaped who I am, and I am grateful for the opportunity to help move its supportive services initiatives to drive equitable housing solutions forward for our residents.
“Brisas has always believed in investing back into our community. This appointment reflects not only my personal commitment but also the values our entire organization holds.”
