Amazon is looking to hire another 5,000 full- and part-time employees in New Jersey — some of which will get a $1,000 sign-on bonus, the company announced Thursday.
The New Jersey statistics were part of a bigger nationwide announcement in which Amazon said it is hoping to bring on 150,000 more employees nationwide. And, while the hiring certainly is pushed toward the holiday season, Amazon officials said that approximately half of the roles would be full-time and extend into 2023.
Amazon, already the largest corporate employer in the state, likely will pass the 60,000 mark for employees should it reach its goal of 5,000 hires.
Here’s more information on the New Jersey hirings, noting that, with numbers this big, it’s difficult to be too specific:
- Approximately 5,000 in locations up and down the state — approximately half of which will be full-time;
- Sign-on bonus of $1,000 for approximately 950 of the New Jersey-based jobs;
- Approximate starting salary of $19 an hour;
- Full benefits on Day One for full-time hires.
Company officials said the jobs in Amazon’s operations network include stowing, picking, packing, sorting, shipping customer orders and more. The roles, they note, can be the start of a long-term career inside or outside the company.

John Felton, Amazon’s senior vice president of worldwide operations, said the hiring can be viewed as a win-win for the company and the employee.
