Bergen New Bridge ranked No. 1 in N.J. (No. 2 in U.S.) for community benefit

Lown Institute Hospitals Index for Social Responsibility recognizes hospital

Bergen New Bridge Medical Center has been recognized for its community benefit, receiving an “A” grade on the Lown Institute Hospitals Index for Social Responsibility.

The index is the first ranking to measure social responsibility of more than 3,600 hospitals nationwide and applies never-before-used metrics such as racial inclusivity, avoidance of overuse and community benefit.

Bergen New Bridge Medical Center was ranked first in New Jersey and second nationally on the community benefit metric. Community benefit demonstrates a hospital’s commitment to investing in charity care as well as a broad spectrum of community health outreach programs.

According to the index, the hospital also earned “A” grades in social responsibility, health equity and patient safety.

CEO Deb Visconi was thrilled by the recognition, as it fits the mission and the vision of Bergen New Bridge.

“I am incredibly proud of what this designation means for the medical center, as our mission is to bring health care directly to those who need it most, particularly those who have historically been underserved and disenfranchised,” she said.

“We will continue to lead efforts to eliminate barriers to care in our community and to be stewards of health equity while continuing to provide high quality health care and behavioral health services to all who need them.”

Others in New Jersey ranked for community benefit include:
