At Kearny Point, helicopter photo firm expands its space

Kearny Point’s historic shipyard is expanding in the air.

NYONair announced Monday that is has opened a 10,000-square-foot storefront at Kearny Point that will house operations for its FlyNYON, which allows people to shoot professional-style photos from an open-air, doors-off helicopter.

The company already had office space in Building 78, and was offering its flight services.

But, now, it has expanded with a full waiting area and soon a virtual tour area that will let customers see the offerings before taking off.

FlyNYON provides a “crowdsourced” aerial experience, offering flights in New York City, Las Vegas, Miami, San Francisco and Los Angeles.

NYONair, its parent company, also offers its own aerial production services, and licenses high-quality images and fine art prints.

“Since we moved into Kearny Point earlier this year, the complex has proven to be the perfect fit for our business, with adaptable spaces that accommodate our operational necessities and a creative energy that suits our personality,” said NYONair CEO Patrick Day. “For those reasons, and because Kearny Point is located just a few short miles from our New York City-centric customer base, we’re excited to open our storefront at Kearny Point, within a larger space that will also support the processes driving each of our different verticals.”

Hugo Neu Corp. is working to reinvent Kearny Point as a modern workplace home to a diverse community of pioneering businesses. FlyNYON is the second retail component of the development, after Dry Dock Bistro, a 2,500-square-foot nouveau American bar and grill.

“Kearny Point is a place that harnesses the creativity of the people and businesses that work within it, and we’re thrilled that NYONair has opened its public storefront here at Building 78,” said Hugo Neu CEO Steve Nislick.. “The fact that such a forward-thinking business has committed staying and growing with us at Kearny Point is validation of our broader vision for the site as a sought-after destination for today’s generation.”

The building is also home to a 5,000-square-foot roof deck and lounge, along with a 3,000-square-foot indoor event space, managed by JPO Concepts. And includes craft-food artisans, tech trendsetters and filmmakers.
