African American Chamber awards $10K to Trenton high school seniors

Three seniors from Trenton Central High School were awarded scholarships from the African American Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey through its Pay It Forward Scholarship Program. In total, $10,000 was distributed in student awards, supporting the educational aspirations of these talented individuals.

The AACCNJ’s Pay It Forward Scholarship Program has three funds: the Ivy League Educational Foundation Inc. scholarship, the Athing Mu Scholarship Fund and the TDI Continuing Education Fund. The three recognize student achievements in academics, athletics, civic engagement, entrepreneurship and/or interest in business, and investment in continuing education and career advancement.

The Athing Mu Scholarship Fund, named in honor of Trentonian Olympic Gold Medalist and former TCHS track and field standout Athing Mu, was awarded to two students who plan to attend The College of New Jersey and New Jersey Institute of Technology in the fall. Athing Mu’s incredible accomplishments on the world stage serves as an inspiration to all students, and the AACCNJ is proud to align her name with this scholarship fund.

In partnership with the Ivy League Educational Foundation Inc., the AACCNJ is dedicated to acknowledging the achievements of local students and providing them with the necessary resources to pursue higher education. Through this fund, the AACCNJ endeavors to enhance educational opportunities and cultivate the next generation of business leaders and entrepreneurs. This scholarship was awarded to two students attending NJIT and Monmouth University in the fall.

“At the AACCNJ, we realize the value of education as the foundation of a potential pathway to a better and transformational existence in society. Moreover, our organization’s ability to deliver on our financial commitment enables us to contribute to the future success of these future leaders,” founder and CEO John Harmon said.

Vivian Harmon, senior director at TDI, joined Helen Walker from the Ivy League Educational Foundation to award two scholarships, and Gene Bouie presented the Athing Mu award at the school’s awards night.
