Metuchen’s Woodmont Metro aims to be transformative

Metuchen Mayor Peter Cammarano said he always knew the area around the town’s train station was the key to growing the downtown area and keeping it vibrant. Thursday, he saw all the proof he needed.

Cammarano joined officials from Woodmont Properties at a ribbon-cutting celebration for Woodmont Metro at Metuchen Station, a transit-oriented, mixed-use facility that includes 273 one- and two-bedroom apartments as well as retail space.

The grand opening follows the first phase of the project, which included the construction of the Pearl Street Parking Garage, a six-level structure with 769 spaces. Next month, a Whole Foods within walking distance will open.

Woodmont Properties Executive Vice President and General Counsel Stephen Santola said revitalizing the area was key to the project.

“With every one of our communities, we work hand-in-hand with local officials to ensure that the end result will fit seamlessly with the character of their towns,” he said. “Metuchen is certainly no exception, as many can attest to firsthand. We are extremely excited to mark the official opening of Woodmont Metro, which will bring a new energy and vibrancy to the area.”

Woodmont officials said leasing of the units shows the demand.

The west building, located on the corner of Pearl and New streets, has leased all of its 162 apartments, Woodmont officials said. The east building is currently leasing its 111 units.

Cammarano said the impact on the area, which had begun to see more abandoned buildings in recent years, goes beyond the numbers.

“Woodmont Properties has been a tremendous partner on this community, and we’re extremely proud of what we’ve accomplished together,” he said.

Woodmont Metro at Metuchen Station is filled with amenities, including a rooftop terrace and lounge, a courtyard built around an outdoor pool, a strength and cardio center, a fitness studio with virtual classes on demand, a game room with a sports bar and billiards table, an outdoor fireplace and barbeque grilling hours.

The pet-friendly community also features an indoor pet spa.

The apartments feature modern kitchens with quartz countertops and stainless-steel appliances and master bathrooms with dual sinks and an oversized shower and/or bathtub. Select homes offer private street level access, terraces and balconies.

Cammarano and Santola were joined at the ribbon cutting by key executives from Woodmont Properties, including CEO Eric Witmondt, Chairman Donald Witmondt and President Lewis Zlotnick.
