Atlantic City has been awarded a $2.32 million grant for electric vehicles, according to a recent announcement from Gov. Phil Murphy’s administration. The award will fund 19 vehicles for the city’s Department of Public Works, including trash trucks, service vehicles, a passenger bus and pickups. Also, vehicle charging stations will be installed at the Atlantic City Public Works Complex on Albany Avenue.
“Atlantic City continues to take bold actions to mitigate climate change impacts and, at the same time, reduce the cost to the taxpayers,” Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small Sr. said. “This grant will allow the city to purchase 19 electric vehicles for the hard-working men and women of the Public Works Department. We thank the state for their support.”
“This funding supports our vehicle electrification and climate mitigation goals and is part of a holistic approach that the Murphy administration is taking to combat global warming and protect our residents,” Commissioner of Environmental Protection Shawn LaTourette said. “We will continue to look for opportunities to develop and fund these types of projects to ensure that all residents benefit from our electrification investments.”
The awarding of these grants is part of the Murphy administration’s overall objectives for electrifying the state’s transportation sector, including the Advanced Clean Cars II and Advanced Clean Trucks initiatives, which set goals for phasing out sales of fossil-fueled vehicles with zero-emission vehicles in coming years.
