DiNapoli Gibbons announces retirement from Wells Fargo

Lucia DiNapoli Gibbons, a highly regarded banking executive for nearly 40 years, announced her retirement.

DiNapoli Gibbons spent 21 years at Wells Fargo, serving in a number of top roles.  She retires as the commercial banking division executive for metro New Jersey and New York.

Her career, which includes a number of blast-from-the-past banks (Chemical Bank and National Westminster Bank), has brought her great fulfillment, she said in a LinkedIn post announcing her retirement.

“I started in banking 38 years ago in a commercial credit training program,” she wrote. “At that time, I thought I would work in banking for five years, at most. Then I learned how fabulous it is to work in the industry.

“As a relationship manager, you get a front-row seat in learning how things are made/done and get the opportunity to be a key adviser to business owners. I fell in love with my true passion 28 years ago or so, when I started leading teams. I enjoy setting strategy and executing plans to help customers and team members succeed and particularly helping people achieve more than they ever thought possible.”

Wells Fargo, she said, has been her greatest joy.

“I love my team and it is difficult and sad to leave them — but it is time,” she wrote.

“I have had a number of experiences over the past years that have driven home that no day is a given. It is time to put my husband, family and myself first. I set this plan in motion last year and am following through.”

Next up, she said, is a move to Florida — and a lot of outdoor activity.

“Dennis (her husband) and I are moving to Florida in May,” she wrote. “I am so sad to leave Wells Fargo and the state of New Jersey, but am so looking forward to this next phase of life. I bought golf clubs and pickleball equipment. I plan to up my cycling game. After taking some good time off with these hobbies and travelling, I will figure out how to fulfill my sense of purpose through volunteerism and other opportunities. Thank you to everyone who have put their trust and confidence in me over the years. I feel remarkably blessed.”
