Special perks for military families, from counseling to free museums

Businesses supporting the military

A look at some of the businesses that are offering special deals for those connected to military service:

Dillon Marcus has been donating weekly professional counseling services and training for the volunteers at Sean’s Room since October 2023. Led by coach and facilitator Donna Sand, the counsellors are trained in a method called “Spot-It,” which is a cognitive behavioral therapy for managing anxiety and stress. Sean’s Room is a peer-led mental health program that offers round-the-clock support to anyone affiliated with Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst — active-duty, veteran or civilian.

Blue Star Museums offers free admission to more than 2,000 museums across the nation from now through Labor Day for active-duty military, including the National Guard and Reserves. The program is a collaboration of Blue Star Families, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Department of Defense and the participating museums. For more information and a list of participating museums, click here.

M&T Bank has launched a statewide, monthlong food drive to support the Food Warriors Program of the Military Support Alliance of New Jersey. M&T will collect monetary donations and nonperishable foods through June 28. The drive is to support families at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst dealing with food insecurity issues. Verizon offers eligible military families savings of up to $25 per month on myPlan with two or three lines, just by confirming ties to those industries through the IDme verification tool, then finishing their discount registration on Verizon’s website. This promotion is year-round.
