New Jersey recently celebrated a $156 million grant from the Solar for All program and spotlighted a solar project in Edison as a prime example of how the federal investments will expand affordable clean energy access across the state.
U.S. Rep. Frank Pallone Jr. (D-6th Dist.), a ranking member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, championed the Inflation Reduction Act’s Solar for All initiative that rewarded the state, enabling it to expand community solar and meet high demand from residents.
In addition to saving New Jersey residents $250 million on their energy bills, the Solar For All award will help the state reduce reliance on fossil fuel energy and slash dangerous greenhouse gas pollution that is causing stronger heat waves, storms and sea level rise.
Currently under construction on the roof of a Prologis warehouse at 45 Patrick Ave., Edison’s Solar Landscape project will cover approximately 370,000 square feet and provide energy savings of $111,000 each year to around 440 local households, about half of which are low-to-moderate income families. The project benefited from tax credits provided by the Inflation Reduction Act and is part of New Jersey’s nation-leading Community Solar Energy Program, which was signed into law by Gov. Phil Murphy this past January.
“Projects like the one in Edison are exactly what I envisioned when I fought to include these critical climate investments in the Inflation Reduction Act,” Pallone said. “It’s fitting that a town named after one of the greatest minds in electricity is now leading the way in energy innovation. This initiative will make clean energy accessible to everyone, especially in low-income and disadvantaged communities, while creating jobs and saving families money. I remain as committed as ever to ensuring that these community solar projects continue to grow and benefit New Jersey and the entire country.”
