Rep. Donald Norcross (D-1st District) recently announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded a $240,000 in Safe Streets and Roads for All grant to Camden City to improve roadway safety.
The funding will be used to collect collision and roadway data and develop a comprehensive safety action plan aimed at preventing road deaths and injuries.
“Safe roads are essential to the strength and well-being of our communities,” Norcross said. “I fought to pass the Infrastructure Law so that we could deliver for South Jersey by supporting projects like this one that invest in our community and improve quality of life. Bringing home federal dollars is one of my top priorities, and I will continue to work to ensure South Jersey gets its fair share.”
The Safe Streets and Roads for All grant program was created by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law which invests in our nation’s infrastructure and creates good-paying jobs for hardworking families. Over the past three years, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law has delivered transformative results for our community, including $8.1 billion to repair and improve our highways and bridges, $263.7 million to expand access to high-speed internet, and $463 million to provide clean and safe water across New Jersey.
Camden Mayor Vic Carstarphen obviously was thrilled.
“The collection of this important data and the creation of the Comprehensive Safety Action Plan will help keep both drivers and pedestrians safe,” he said. “I am incredible grateful to Congressman Norcross for always looking out for the wellbeing of our residents, and for advocating for funding that improves the quality of life across the Camden community.
“These funds provided by our partners at the U.S. Department of Transportation will only strengthen our ongoing efforts to improve roadways citywide.”
