Morristown Medical Center and Overlook Medical Center were the only two hospitals in New Jersey to be selected among the Healthgrades list of America’s Best Hospitals.
Healthgrades selects the best 250 hospitals. And while they don’t rank them No. 1-No. 250, they do present them in three groups: Top 50, Top 100 and Top 250. Numerous N.J. hospitals were ranked between 51-251 (listed below).
This is the second consecutive year that Morristown and Overlook (located in Summit) are the only two N.J. hospitals to make the Top 50.
Scott Leighty, the chief health system officer for Atlantic Health System, obviously was pleased by the selections. It is the 10th consecutive year Morristown has been so honored – and sixth consecutive selection for Overlook.
Another Atlantic Health property, Chilton Medical Center in Pequannock, made the top 250.
“To consistently earn these rankings across three of our medical centers highlights our dedication to providing safe, high-quality care,” Leighty said.
“Our team members, doctors, nurses and multi-disciplinary clinicians throughout our medical centers continue to be laser-focused on not only raising, but exceeding industry quality standards within Atlantic Health System.”
To determine the top hospitals for 2025, Healthgrades evaluated risk-adjusted mortality and complication rates for over 30 of the most common conditions and procedures at approximately 4,500 hospitals nationwide. Healthgrades’ ratings are based solely on what matters most: patient outcomes.
The 2025 Healthgrades annual analysis revealed significant performance gaps between the nation’s highest- and lowest-achieving hospitals, making it increasingly important to seek care at a top-rated facility. From 2021-2023, if all hospitals, as a group, had performed similarly to America’s 250 Best Hospitals,176,081 lives could potentially have been saved.
