People always ask: How do we pick the Power List?
We jokingly say it’s as easy as 1-2-3-4-5.
Here goes.
Step One: As our regular readers know, we follow the business world 365 days a year, reporting on all the key events, transactions, and accomplishments — talking to the principals involved as much as we can. This gives us a start on identifying those who are most impactful and influential.
Step Two: We ask top leaders in leading sectors to nominate others in different sectors they work with. To ensure we get a good cross-section of nominees, we ask different people every year. We add those to the nominations we receive from readers. There is no formal process, but — trust us — we get plenty of nominations. And yes,
it’s OK to nominate yourself; we get plenty
of those, too.
Step Three: After determining the best of the best, we categorize the nominees. There is an overall Power List; this year, it stands at 75. To make it more complete, we add numerous other sector categories. This year, we added the best of the best in energy/environment and in sports/arts/entertainment.
Step Four: We produce it all in print
and digital formats — a heady undertaking for sure.
We call it our labor of love and say it’s as easy as 1, 2, 3, 4.
