South Jerseyans of Year: Persichilli, Thomas and Domenica Foundation to be honored by Rand Institute

Judy Persichilli, the former commissioner of health for the state of New Jersey, Liz Thomas, the co-founder and CEO of Thomas/Boyd Communications and the Domenica Foundation are being honored as South Jerseyans of the Year by the Senator Walter Rand Institute for Public Affairs at Rutgers-Camden.

The event, to be held April 29 (5:30-8:30 p.m.) at the Tavistock Country Club, will mark the 25th anniversary of the Institute. (For more information, click here)

The event raises critical resources for the Institute and provides the funds necessary for a variety of student engagement programming. The proceeds support undergraduate and graduate student fellowships, scholarships, and South Jersey community-based research, teaching and training initiatives.

WRI Director Mavis Asiedu-Frimpong applauded the announcement, saying the event annually recognizes people in the public, private, and nonprofit sectors who are working to improve lives and strengthen local communities.

“It is always an honor to be able to recognize outstanding individuals who have made significant contributions to the growth and betterment of Southern New Jersey,” she said. “We believe these honorees truly embody what it means to serve your community.”

WRI honors former Senator Walter Rand’s legacy of public service to Southern New Jersey and his hometown of Camden.

WRI has been a cornerstone in producing and highlighting community-focused research and fostering policy and practice that make a difference in areas like workforce development, education, transportation, and public health.

Senator Rand and his wife Leah shared a passion for public service and supporting programs for youth. Together, they dedicated their time, talents, and treasure toward helping South Jersey’s children and communities thrive. Each year, their work lives on through the Walter & Leah Rand Awards and Scholarship Dinner.
