Lights, camera, learning: Hudson County Community College launches film industry training program

Hudson County Community College (HCCC) is launching a new film and television production training program in partnership with the New Jersey Film Academy, aiming to equip students with industry credentials and workforce opportunities in the state’s growing entertainment sector.

The initiative is part of a statewide effort supported by the New Jersey Council of County Colleges (NJCCC) and the New Jersey Business & Industry Association’s (NJBIA) New Jersey Pathways to Career Opportunities. It responds to increased demand for skilled workers as major studios such as Netflix, Lionsgate, Palisades Stages in Kearny, and Cinelease in Jersey City expand their operations.

HCCC is among the first four community colleges participating in the program, which offers four specialized courses: Introduction to the Entertainment Industry, On-set Production, Production Office and Accounting, and Hair, Makeup, and Wardrobe. Students who complete the program will receive a certificate of completion and access to internships and entry-level jobs.

The first course, “Script to Screen: Introduction to the Entertainment Industry,” begins April 7. The nine-week, $375 course will be held Mondays and Thursdays from 6 to 9 p.m. at HCCC’s Journal Square campus. Instructor Hisani P. Dubose, a film and theater professional with nearly 30 years of industry experience, will teach students about industry standards, script development, on-set safety, audiovisual production, and post-production processes.

“Hudson County has a rich cinematic history and is an ideal location for the entertainment industry’s resurgence in New Jersey,” HCCC President Dr. Christopher Reber said. “We are proud to be at the forefront of this workforce initiative that will help strengthen the state’s film and television sector.”
