RWJBarnabas Health, Rutgers Cancer Institute to open N.J.’s first freestanding cancer hospital

RWJBarnabas Health and Rutgers Cancer Institute will unveil New Jersey’s first and only freestanding, fully comprehensive cancer hospital – the Jack & Sheryl Morris Cancer Center on May 13.

The state-of-the-art, 12-story, 520,000-square-foot facility costing an estimated $750 million will open at 15 Division Street, New Brunswick. The unveiling will be held at 3 p.m. on May 13.

The Morris Cancer Center is the cornerstone of RWJBarnabas Health’s more than $1.5 billion investment to transform and expand oncology services—greatly enhancing access and care — across the state and region.

The cancer center will provide inpatient and outpatient care, as well as ancillary services and is designed as a model of extraordinary cancer care delivery. It is considered to be the linchpin of the oncology services provided across the health system providing an integrated network of nationally recognized cancer specialists.

In addition, the center will offer diagnostic services, oncology support services including health and wellness programs and community education.

The center will be several blocks north of Children’s Specialized Hospital, other Robert Wood Johnson facilities, less than a mile southeast of St. Peter’s University Hospital, and less than a half mile from the New Brunswick train station.

The center is named in recognition of the philanthropic work of Jack Morris, a longtime supporter and pillar in New Brunswick development, and his wife, Sheryl.

Representatives from RWJBarnabas Health, Rutgers Cancer Institute, project partners, and local and state elected officials are scheduled to be in attendance, including: Gov. Phil Murphy; Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin;  Mayor Jim Cahill, City of New Brunswick; Director Ronald Rios, Middlesex County Board of Commissioners; Mark E. Manigan, President and CEO, RWJBarnabas Health; Bill Arnold, CEO, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and Executive Vice President and President, Southern Region, RWJBarnabas Health; Jack Morris, chair of the board of directors, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital; and cancer survivors and patients
